Hard Road to Hardening: CIS Benchmarks and Linux Security for Beginners
Monday March 24, 2025 9:30am - 10:15am MDT
This project report covers our experience hardening systems running Linux as the backend for Oracle Database. As long-time Linux and Oracle professionals, we unexpectedly found ourselves tasked with a nontechnical yet highly complex issue. Despite our experience, we were overwhelmed by the vast amount of knowledge we needed to acquire in the security domain.

This is a story of criminal threats, self-imposed limitations, calculated risks, hidden dangers, familiar habits, external pressures, real-world challenges, practical applications, performance, overhead, tools, and the key question: Who will maintain this?

Join us as we share our journey toward enhanced security—and the trade-offs that came with it.

ZDM -- Zero Downtime Migration of Large 100TB+ Databases
Monday March 24, 2025 11:30am - 12:15pm MDT
What are some methods that can guarantee a no downtime migration of 100T database? With the increase in demand for 24x7 availability, upgrades and migrations are becoming a challenge. We need fool proof migrations /upgrades while ensuring no downtime. This is challenging enough without adding the size of the database in question to be several terabytes. We will explore some options to successfully migrate large databases with zero downtime. Detailing the methods and illustration of the requirements to help audience understand options available to reproduce the migrations in their client space.
Presentation Objective 1: •Illustrate client requirements that are hard to accomplish and ways to use technology to successfully accomplish a zero downtime 100T DB migration.
Presentation Objective 2: •Detail technical solution that can be used by DBAs in the conference. Valid solutions illustrated for audience benefit.
Presentation Objective 3: •Technically strong solution explained. These can be easily implemented by all in their client space to accomplish successful 100T + DB migrations.
Presentation Objective 4: •As DBAs we are constantly challenged to improve our techniques for upgrades and migration and achieve zero downtime feats. This presentation will be beneficial to all who technical folks and can be taken back to their client space,. Customer case study included

Building a Card Viewer App with Oracle APEX and API Integration
Monday March 24, 2025 2:15pm - 3:00pm MDT
In this presentation, we will explore how to leverage Oracle APEX to build a powerful, user-friendly application that dynamically pulls and displays images using external API data. Oracle APEX’s low-code environment streamlines application development, while API integration provides access to a vast library of data and images. Learn how to set up an API connection, manage and display dynamic images, and build intuitive filters for sorting and viewing cards. By the end of the session, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge to create interactive, data-driven applications that access and display external data, enriching the user experience and expanding the capabilities of Oracle APEX.

Backup Your Database and Don't Worry About Its Recoverability, ZDLRA Gets You Covered
Tuesday March 25, 2025 11:15am - 12:00pm MDT
Large databases are becoming increasingly common, and backing them up is always a challenge. Now, imagine how difficult it would be to recover them in the event of a disaster or media failure.

What if there was a solution that could back up databases, reduce backup size and time, validate the recoverability of the backup, and, best of all, guarantee no data loss?

In this session, we'll explore some of the benefits of Oracle's Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance and show how it works. If your company doesn't have the budget or need for such a robust solution, don't worry—we'll also look at a DIY approach to help you manage backups effectively.

How To Estimate SQL Run Times Without Application Code Modifications
Tuesday March 25, 2025 2:30pm - 3:15pm MDT
Imagine knowing SQL run times without modifying your application code. That's exactly what I'll demonstrate by diving into ASH data.

Picture this: A ticket reports, "This query takes 45 seconds!" How can you verify that? Is 45 seconds typical? Has it happened before? Could it be using a suboptimal execution plan? By analyzing ASH data, we'll answer these questions and more.

In this session, I'll show you how to manually infer SQL run times from ASH data. I'll then introduce a flexible SQL script that analyzes ASH data, infers run times, and reports results—down to the execution plan level. Finally, we'll use a simple spreadsheet to review and analyze the results. Join me as we explore a hidden gem in ASH data analysis!
